The session was conducted by Ms. Rachana Nair, Academic Director of Kerala Public Schools, with the aim of sensitizing transport staff to the emotional and physical safety needs of children under their care. In her address, Ms. Nair emphasized the importance of empathy, vigilance, and responsible behavior while transporting students. She spoke about how childhood is a sensitive and formative phase, and how every adult in a child’s environment – including drivers – contributes to shaping their experience and well-being. The session also touched upon essential topics such as child safety, respectful communication, behavioral conduct, and the need to create a secure and comforting atmosphere for children during their commute. Practical examples and real-life scenarios were shared to help the participants understand their role not just as drivers, but as guardians of childhood during school hours.
