Kerala Public School, Burmamines celebrated its Annual Sports Day at the J. R. D. Tata Sports Complex with great enthusiasm and sportsmanlike spirit. The occasion was graced by Colonel Earnest Paul, Senior Executive Pilot, Tata Steel, as the Chief Guest. Colonel Paul is a distinguished alumnus of Loyola School and the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun.
The Chief Guest was accorded a warm welcome by the Chairman of the School, Dr. Shrikant Nair, who presented him with a bouquet. The programme was further honoured by the presence of the Chairperson, Ms. Manorama Nair, and the Academic Director, Dr. Rachna Nair.
The event commenced with the hoisting of the school flag followed by the lighting of the ceremonial torch, symbolising the true spirit of sportsmanship and fair play.
The programme began with an impressive March Past, led by the Plus Two students. This was followed by contingents from the Challengers House, Conquerors House, Victors House, Champions House, and the NCC Cadets, displaying remarkable discipline, coordination, and unity. The Chief Guest took the salute and encouraged the students, motivating them to actively participate in sports alongside academics for their holistic development. He also shared his personal experiences, inspiring the young athletes.
Addressing the gathering, Chairman Dr. Shrikant Nair emphasised the importance of discipline in sports and highlighted that a healthy body nurtures a healthy mind. The March Past concluded with pride and precision.
Students from all four houses—Challengers, Conquerors, Victors, and Champions—participated enthusiastically in various track and field events, including races and relay competitions. Outstanding performers were duly recognised and awarded.
The audience was enthralled by the colourful drill displays presented by the students. Their vibrant and synchronised performances left the spectators spellbound, reflecting energy, grace, and confidence.
In the March Past, Challengers House emerged as the winner. The title of Best Athlete (Boys) was bagged by Ayush Kumar Singh, while Arushi Verma won the Best Athlete (Girls) award. With an exceptional overall performance, Challengers House lifted the Overall Championship Trophy, while Champions House secured the position of Runners-up.
In her address, the Principal, Ms. Priyanka Barua, stated that the celebration of Sports Day not only provides students with an opportunity to test their physical endurance but also helps inculcate the values of teamwork, leadership, and cooperation. She felicitated the winners by presenting them with medals and certificates of appreciation.
The event was attended by teachers and students in large numbers. The programme was efficiently compered by Ms. Laxmi Kumari and Ms. Anisha, while the Vote of Thanks was delivered by Vice Principal Mr. Gawrab Banerjee. The celebration concluded on a patriotic note with the National Anthem.
The success of the event was the result of the dedicated efforts of Vice Principal Ms. Manisha Majumder, Sports Teachers Mr. Rakesh Kumar Rana and Mr. Mohammad Wasim, Ms. Shaheen, and the entire teaching fraternity of the school.
The Annual Sports Day 2025–26 stood as a memorable celebration of discipline, teamwork, perseverance and sportsmanship at Kerala Public School, Burmamines.
